WordPress Attacked Yesterday & Google’s Plans to Help

Yesterday, DDOS (Denial of Service) attacks occur ed on several blogging platforms, namely WordPress & Live Journal. So if you were wondering why your WordPress blog was a little wonky… it wasn’t you!

Here’s the scoop on the attacks from PCMAG: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2333361,00.asp

Unrelated to these specific attacks, Google is planning to help webmasters by notifying them if they have security holes in their CMS (Content Management System) starting with WordPress. So if you run a blog using WordPress and aren’t keeping it up to date… Google will be letting you know!

Irina Guseva over at CMSWire.com said,

Since Google considers the blog publishing platform WordPress to be one of the most popular pieces of software on the Web, the test will start with this platform beginning with a specific version 2.1.1, which
is known to be a prime target for hackers.

So, if you’re so lazy that you don’t keep your software up-to-date, Google will set you straight. Or, will, at least, attempt to do so. To those of you on WordPress: the latest available version is 2.6.2. So, get your act together now and let Google work on something more exciting than chasing cybercriminals.
